Fuel Surcharge Road Freight

Changes in fuel prices have resulted in increased overall costs for the freight transport industry, necessitating the introduction of a variable fuel surcharge which may rise, fall or be removed to align with movements in fuel prices.

Information about the fuel surcharge

Due to the continuing rise of fuel prices DHL has found it necessary to implement a fuel surcharge for every time definite shipment. The price of aviation fuel has increased by 50% and we have absorbed the full impact of these increases to date. Information about current fuel surcharge for freight domestic and international road shipments could be found in the below stated paragraph Fuel Surcharge History.

Fuel surcharge is calculated based on a weekly index average for oil prices in EUR 27. The surcharge is linked to the diesel fuel inclusive of duties and taxes and published in the Oil BulletinExternal Link of European Commission Directorate General for Energy and Transport. There will be a two month lag in the application of the index. For example, the monthly average price for fuel in January is used to determine the applicable surcharge for March. This is due to the release dates of the spot pricing data.
The Fuel surcharges will vary in 0.5% steps and will be updated on a monthly basis.
